5 National Golds for SW Winners

The winning businesses have been through a rigorous selection process, winning South West awards from amongst 350 entries across the South West and many of them winning also in the Cornwall Tourism Awards and Devon Tourism Awards. Since January, their entries have been pitted against further entries from across the country, with 10 entries selected as Finalists representing the South West at the VisitEngland awards night in Leicester on 22nd May.

Gold Awards were picked up by Cornwall’s Pentillie Castle for B&B of the year and Gwel an Mor for Holiday Park of the Year. Devon’s Compton Pool Farm took Gold for Self Catering Holiday of the Year with Wheatland Farm winning the Sustainable Tourism Gold. Bath’s Bath Priory Hotel took Gold for Small Hotel of the Year.

A Silver Award went to Cornwall’s Roundhouse Barn Holidays in the Self Catering category, in addition to a Highly Commended for their B&B offering, whilst Bodmin Visitor Information Centre took Silver in the Visitor Information category.

Devon’s Bovey Castle picked up Bronze for Large Hotel of the Year, with Bristol’s International Balloon Fiesta taking a further Bronze for Tourism Event of the Year.

Robin Barker, from awards-organisers Services for Tourism, comments: “This is a fabulous result for the South West, winning more Golds than other regions and cementing the South West’s position as England’s top quality tourism destination. It is a testament to the investment in skills and quality made by our top businesses, and a just reward for their endeavours.”

The 2012/13 South West Tourism Excellence Awards will launch next week – and we hope to match and build on this success over the next twelve months.”
